The female-focused, online magazine Chick Talk Dallas featured me and my Gummy World in October.

Titled "A Girl. A Dream. A Bag of Gummy Bears," the article focused on my hope to one day own a small shop that would carry Gummy World prints, greeting cards and other merchandise.

Arts Goggle (October 3, 2009) was the first ArtLoveMagic show in Fort Worth. I was very blessed to have a table for Gummy World there, which did quite well.

The highlight of the night for me was when a man came by the Gummy World table and bought a picture of Gummy Daydream, on the sly, for his girlfriend. He stuffed it in his shirt to surprise her later!

I had my first solo show which ran from Dec. 3, 2007 through Jan. 8, 2008. Below is the release for the show and reception.

“Works in Progress” an exhibit by Jenice Johnson

From December 3, 2007 through January 8, 2008 a photography exhibition by Jenice Johnson will be at the Mesquite Arts Center.

The Mesquite Arts Council will host the artist at a reception on December 8th from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. And, the Arts Center is open each week day from 8:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. and during performances.

Photography has always been a part of Jenice Johnson’s life but it wasn’t until two years ago while working in the journalism field that she took her passion for this medium into a new direction — art.

Jenice is a native Texan — born in Lubbock and raised in Arlington where she received a degree in English at the University of Texas at Arlington. As a writer since she was seven years old, Jenice has painted pictures with words. But photography has allowed her to come full circle by telling stories with images, which has not only been fulfilling but challenging. She titled her exhibit “Works in Progress” to convey these self-discoveries.

“I continue to learn and perfect my work as well as continuing to grow with each picture,” she said. “It is through my photography that I continue to progress.”

Jenice currently works as an assistant managing editor for the east and central zones of neighborsgo, a weekly publication of The Dallas Morning News. She has been covering the city of Mesquite and the surrounding area since August 2005.

She finds inspiration for her art from the everyday as well as the people and experiences that surround her life.

I donated this piece titled "Fair Swing" to the Light the Night Walk 2007 cocktail party and auction in Fort Worth. The event benefits the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. "Fair Swing" sold and was just one of several pieces that raised thousands for the cause.
